Digital Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always been vocal about the benefits of "shree anna," or millet, as a homegrown superfood.
The Prime Minister has now joined with Indian-American Grammy-winning singer-song composer Falu to compose a song emphasizing the benefits of millets and the role they can play in the fight against world hunger.
Falguni Shah, popularly known as Falu, collaborated on this song with her husband and fellow singer Gaurav. The single was released on Friday, June 16. In an interview with PTI, Shah said, "Prime Minister Modi wrote a song with me and my husband, Gaurav Shah."
Shah, who won the Grammy Award for Best Children's Album in 2022 for her album 'A Colourful World,' told the news agency that the inspiration to dedicate a song to Millets came to her after meeting the Prime Minister in Delhi last year. During their meeting, Modi urged her to write a song about solving global hunger and advised her to focus on millet, as it is a superfood with great nutritional value that is widely available in India.

When asked how it felt to collaborate with the PM, the singer described it as a "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for any artist."
"It's one thing to write for him and another to write with him. "You will hear the speech that he wrote and narrated in his own voice in the middle of the song," she told the news agency.
After India proposed it to the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Governing Bodies, 2023 was designated as the "International Year of Millets."
Millets were one of the first crops to be planted in India. Millets have been cultivated and eaten since the Indian Bronze Age (3,500–2000 BC).
Millets are mentioned several times in the Yajurveda as being farmed and consumed.
Regular consumption of millet, such as jowar, bajra, ragi, and others, can help regulate blood sugar, decrease cholesterol, and lower blood pressure.
