Digital Desk: On the invitation of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Cairo on Saturday for a two-day state visit.

Egypt's Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly greeted PM Modi at the airport with a heartfelt embrace. On his arrival, Prime Minister Modi reviewed a guard of honour.

This is the first bilateral visit to Egypt by an Indian Prime Minister in 26 years.

During his two-day State visit from June 24 to 25, he will meet with Egypt's Prime Minister and President El-Sisi. PM Modi will later meet with the Indian community.

Today, Prime Minister Modi will meet Egypt's Grand Mufti, Dr Shawki Ibrahim Abdel-Karim Allam, and will meet with Egyptian thought leaders.

PM Modi will pay a visit to the Al-Hakim Mosque on Sunday. The Prime Minister will spend about 30 minutes at the Al-Hakim Mosque in Cairo, which is named after Al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah (985-1021), the 16th Fatimid caliph.

During his Egypt visit, PM Modi will also pay respect to the Indian soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice fighting for Egypt during the First World War at the Heliopolis War Grave cemetery.

The visit is significant since Egypt has long been one of India's most important African trading partners. According to the Egyptian Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS), the India-Egypt Bilateral Trade Agreement has been in effect since March 1978 and is based on the Most Favoured Nation clause.

Moreover, based on a long history of communication and cooperation in bilateral, regional, and global issues, India and Egypt share a close political understanding.
