Digital Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the residence of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L K Advani on the occasion of his 95th birthday on Tuesday. Advani is a veteran BJP leader. One of the BJP's co-founders is Advani, who served as deputy prime minister under the Atal Bihari Vajpayee administration.

Modi sent the veteran leader flowers as a greeting. He was accompanied by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

While serving in the administration, Advani, according to Home Minister Amit Shah, made a significant contribution to the country's development and expanded the party organisation nationwide. Shah wished him long life and good health.
Nitin Gadkari, a minister for the Union, referred to Advani as an inspiration.

“Warm birthday greetings to revered Shri LK Advani ji. His many contributions and services to the nation will always keep inspiring us. Pray for his healthy and long life," tweeted S Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs.

Others who used social media to express their wishes included Telugu Desam Party President N Chandrababu Naidu, Union Ministers Hardeep Singh Puri, and Kiren Rijiju, among others.

Advani, who was born in Karachi in 1927 but is now a part of Pakistan, joined the RSS at a young age and later worked for the Jana Sangh, where he built a name for himself through his organisational skills.

Along with former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, he was a founding member of the Bharatiya Janata Party in 1980 and served as its spokesperson for many years.

Advani is a skilled strategist, and his 1990 "Rath Yatra" in favour of erecting the Ram temple in Ayodhya, at the location thought to be Lord Ram's birthplace, is regarded as a watershed moment in national politics, indicating the party's irreversible march to power.

Advani served as home minister while Vajpayee, the party's popular face who garnered acceptance outside of its base of supporters, was named prime minister. Later, he was appointed deputy prime minister.
