    Parliament special session to begin today; What's on agenda?
    The formal move from the old to the new Parliament building is scheduled during the special session on 19 September in honour of Ganesh Chaturthi.

    Digital Desk: The five-day-long special session of Parliament is set to start today, September 18. The session will be opened by the "Samvidhan Sabha." The special session will open with a discussion on Parliament's 75-year history, starting with the first meeting on December 9, 1946, according to a decision reached by the Central Government.

    An all-party meeting will be held at the Centre on Monday evening, just before the extraordinary session gets underway, according to the administration's preliminary schedule of events, which was made public. During the meeting, it's likely that the weekly schedule will be addressed.

    The formal move from the old to the new Parliament building is scheduled during the special session on 19 September in observance of Ganesh Chaturthi. The Special Session will come to an end on September 22.
     
    What will be covered during the special session?

    The legislative agenda for the current session includes four laws in addition to a discussion of the 75-year history of Parliament. One of those laws regulates the appointment, terms of service, and tenure of the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners.

    The Advocates (Amendment) Bill of 2023 and The Press and Registration of Periodicals Bill of 2023, both of which were previously approved by the Rajya Sabha on August 3 are also listed among the bills. While the Advocates (Amendment) Bill, 2023 amends the Advocates Act, 1961, the Press and Registration of Periodicals Bill, 2023 supersedes the Press and Registration of Books Act, 1867.

    In addition, "The Post Office Bill, 2023" has been included in the Lok Sabha's agenda. The bill was initially introduced in the Rajya Sabha on August 10, 2023, and it repealed the Indian Post Office Act of 1898.

    With a total of 24 parties, the INDIA Bloc has agreed to participate in the special session of the Parliament. In a letter to Prime Minister Modi, Sonia Gandhi asked for discussion and debate on a variety of subjects, including the country's current financial situation.

    She pushed for discussion on a variety of subjects during the special session, including the necessity of the caste census, Manipur, intercommunal violence, and inflation. Sonia Gandhi also pushed for a discussion on the differences between some states and the Centre.
