Digital Desk: Vijay Shekhar Sharma, the CEO of Paytm, was reportedly arrested by the Delhi Police late last month for hazardous or careless driving after being charged under IPC Section 279. Later, he was released on bail. Sharma is suspected of driving the Jaguar Land Rover that collided with a DCP (South District) car outside The Mother's International School on Aurobindo Marg last month.
According to a story in the Indian Express, the collision occurred on February 22, and police filed an FIR based on the complaint of Constable Dipak Kumar, who works as a driver for DCP (South) Benita Mary Jaiker. According to the article, Sharma's arrest was confirmed by Delhi Police spokesman Suman Nalwa, who stated he was released on bail.
Constable Kumar claimed he and Constable Pradeep had driven to a petrol station about 8 a.m. and had to slow down near Mother's International School owing to a traffic bottleneck caused by parents leaving their children off at the school. While Pradeep was getting out of the car to clear the traffic, another vehicle slammed into the DCP's vehicle from behind and fled the scene.
"Our vehicle was damaged, so Pradeep told me to pull over to the side of the road and park." Our DCP was told, and she inquired about the car. We told her we had taken down the number and had filed an FIR with the Malviya Nagar police station," Kumar explained.
The car was tracked down and discovered to be registered with a Gurgaon-based corporation. Sharma, a resident of Greater Kailash-II, was given the vehicle by the company, which contacted the police. Sharma was detained and released on bail after being summoned to the Malviya Nagar police station.
A spokeswoman for Paytm declined to comment on the situation. However, the Delhi Police have seized the JLR vehicle.
