Protest Against Farm Laws Completes One Year, Thousands Gather in Singhu Border

New Delhi: Today, the Singhu border turned into a merry-making sight with hundreds of tractors adorned with lights and posters on the occasion of the compilation of one year of the historic protest against the three farm laws that the government is set to formally withdraw.

To mark their victory, the farmers distributed sweets and hugged each other flaunting their colourful turbans with dance moves in Punjabi and Haryanvi songs.

Thousands of farmers from neighboring states like Punjab and Haryana headed towards the Delhi border to mark the one year.

Moreover, the farmers brought vegetables, sacks of flour and lentils, spices and cooking oil on their tractors.

BKU national spokesperson Rakesh Tikait tweeted in Hindi, “It has been a year of unmatched struggle mixed with happiness and sadness. We are fighting and winning. We will fight and win. MSP law is farmers’ right”.

A BKU supporter who reached Ghazipur from Muzaffarnagar in the morning on a tractor said that they had come to the protest with arrangements for food and accommodation. He said, “It has been a year, the farmers can continue the protest for their rights for several years.”

Meanwhile, a group of farmers gathered in a Gurdwara of Gilwali village in Amritsar to pay tribute to those who lost their lives during the yearlong protest against the farm laws.

Notably, the farmers have been protesting against the farm laws on various borders of Delhi since November 26, 2020.

Significantly, the President of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) today announced that he would form a new party for the upcoming Punjab assembly election. He also mentioned that his party would also prepare for contesting in the Haryana in the future.

Notably, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the repeal of the farm laws, the Kisan Unions stated that they would continue their ongoing demands till the laws didn’t get approved in parliament officially.

Additionally, Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) stated that they would continue their earlier plans, including the ‘Sansad Chalo’ march on November 29.
