Rajnath Singh inaugurates 7-storey complex constructed in 45 days

The complex will host research and development facilities to develop Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) and other manned and unmanned aircraft in the United States.

Digital Desk: On Thursday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh opened a seven-story structure for the domestic fifth-generation fighter aircraft programme, built in a record 45 days.

The Flight Control System (FCS) Complex at Bengaluru's Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) was constructed utilizing the hybrid technology designed in-house by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

Rajnath Singh applauded everyone involved in the project, anointing it "no less than a miracle" because such undertakings used to take years to complete.

The complex will host research and development facilities to develop Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) and other manned and unmanned aircraft in the United States. The multi-story infrastructure is built using traditional, per-engineered, and precast techniques.

On November 22, 2021, the project's foundation stone was placed. The building began on February 1, 2022, providing the necessary state-of-the-art infrastructure to support FCS R&D activities using composite construction technology in the shortest period possible.

According to DRDO, for the first time in the country's construction history, the premier government's agency has established a new record by completing a permanent seven-story structure in 45 days and ready-to-move condition.

Steel plates were used to construct the structural frame's column and beam parts. The columns have hollow cross-sections and are composed of concrete-filled steel.

The slabs were partially prefabricated, and the structural parts were all put together on site. In contrast to precast construction, the structure has no dry joints because concreting was done concurrently to produce the building monolithically cast.

Compared to traditional buildings, steel provides a durable structure for the concrete core, significantly reducing time and labour. The state-of-the-art complex, according to DRDO, has a VRF air-conditioning system, an electrical system, and fire protection following the standard National building code.
