The Rajya Sabha chair will use an electronic tablet while conducting business in the House, keeping track of members' attendance, learning who is speaking, and gathering other required data.
The credit goes to Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, for using an iPad to run the Upper House's proceedings on the second last day of the budget session held a few months ago this year.
On Thursday, the Rajya Sabha went totally digital, according to officials, which led to hour-long separate sessions with a number of officials from different wings of the RS Secretariat.
In April, the Rajya Sabha Chairman also instructed the members to get ready for a paperless Parliament in the coming days.
Dhankhar had a lengthy meeting in April with top staff members from the Rajya Sabha Secretariat and asked them to upskill themselves because the new Parliament Building will be "technology-driven and paperless."
Reportedly, Dhankhar had subsequently asked the authorities to submit any written suggestions for training needs, technology skill-building, or capacity-building.
