Digital Desk: Following the Ram Navami violence, which left several people injured, including six with bullet wounds, internet services were banned in several districts of Bihar, including Nalanda and Sasaram, for 48 hours. In Nalanda and Sasaram, Section 144 (prohibitory orders) was also imposed.
"Fifteen persons were taken to the hospital. Three of them have been referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital, and one is being treated in ICU," said Viswajeet Kumar, a doctor at Nalanda Sadar hospital.
On Friday, a confrontation erupted between two groups during a Ram Navami procession near Gagan Diwan Mohalla under Laheri police station in Biharsharif, the district headquarters of Nalanda, when one group allegedly threw stones at the procession, prompting gunfire and the torching of eight vehicles.
In the fights that lasted till Friday evening, police officials were also hurt, including a guard for sub-divisional police officer Sasaram.
During the conflict, police and administration officers were stationed at the incident location, and security in the district was reinforced. Meanwhile, Patna central range Inspector General (IG) Rakesh Rathee, who arrived in Nalanda amid the fighting, reported that the police had arrested 28 persons who were reportedly participating in the clash.
He stated that they are checking CCTV evidence to identify the true perpetrators and that more police and an RAF (Rapid Action Force) unit had been deployed to take control of the situation. According to Rathee, police are also keeping a careful eye on social media to prevent rumour-mongering.
Police arrested 18 people in Sasaram, according to Deputy General of Police (DIG) Navin Chandra Jha, while the district magistrate and the caretaker of police (SP) are holding a peace meeting after both factions battled during the parade.
Likewise, an instance of stone pelting during a Ram Navami procession was reported from Gaya and Naugachhia on Friday.
Members of two groups fought during the Sobha Yatra procession at Dabbu village, according to Gaya senior superintendent of police (SSP) Ashish Bharti.
He stated that several persons were injured as a result of stone pelting. Meanwhile, police have arrested 16 persons and raids are being launched to apprehend further suspects, according to Bharti.
