Digital Desk: The State Investigation Agency (SIA) raided multiple locations in Jammu and Kashmir in connection with a terror-funding case on Saturday (March 18). The officials said that the searches were conducted at various locations in south Kashmir's Anantnag and Kulgam districts. According to the news agency PTI, those raided included relatives of Sarjan Barkati, who became well-known during street protests in 2016.
Reportedly, searches were conducted in eight separate locations to investigate the recipients of slush funds flowing through known secessionist Maulavi Sarjan Barkati of south Kashmir.
They claimed that SIA sleuths conducted the investigations with the assistance of police officers and members of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). According to the officials, the searches were part of a bigger investigation into a case involving the financing of terrorism. According to government sources, more than Rs 1.5 crore in funds were raised through crowdfunding and from suspected terror sources and used for personal gain, profiteering, and the advancement of secessionist-terrorist campaigns.
Informing about Maulavi Sarjan Barkati of South Kashmir, the government sources close to ANI said, "Sarjan Barkati is known for mobilizing thousands onto streets during the 2016 violent agitation, through his incendiary oratory".
