Several Flights Delayed at Delhi Airport Due to Dense Fog

New Delhi: The dense blanket of fog hovering over the national capital has caused a delay in numerous flights to and from Delhi Airport on Tuesday. However, no cancellations or diversions have been reported till now.

Senior Delhi airport official said, “Severe fog caused numerous planes to be delayed by 5 to 15 minutes. Passengers should contact the airline directly for the most up-to-date flight information; any inconvenience is appreciated. He went on to say that they are constantly updating information about flight operations on the Delhi airport’s social media accounts for passengers.”

Meanwhile, Delhi airport tweeted, “Low Visibility Procedures are in progress at Delhi Airport. All flight operations are presently normal. Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information.”

Between 06:30 and 08:00 am, dense fog was reported above Palam airport, decreasing visibility to just 50 meters.

As per the IMD, very deep fog occurs when visibility is between 0 and 50 metres. On the other hand, the visibility ranges from 51 to 200 meters in ‘dense’ fog, 201 to 500 metres in ‘moderate’ fog, and 501 to 1,000 metres in ‘shallow’ fog.

As per the IMD, Delhi people woke up to a foggy morning on Tuesday, with the minimum temperature at 6.5 degrees Celsius, a notch below the season’s average.

“The sky will be mostly clear in the city, but it will become partially cloudy in the evening or night. On Wednesday morning, there is a chance of moderate to severe fog.” said IMD.

The maximum temperature for the day is expected to be approximately 19 degrees Celsius, added IMD.

According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board, Delhi’s air quality was in the ‘bad’ category at 8 am, with an air quality index (AQI) of 228. On the other hand, the air quality in nearby places, including Noida (196), Greater Noida (194), Ghaziabad (185), and Gurgaon (193), was categorized as ‘moderate.’ In Faridabad, the situation was ‘poor’ (209).

An AQI of zero to 50 is regarded as ‘good,’ 51 to 100 is considered as ‘satisfactory,’ 101 to 200 is considered as moderate,’ 201 to 300 is considered ‘poor,’ 301 to 400 is considered as ‘very poor,’ and 401 to 500 is considered as ‘severe.’
