Digital Desk: A leopard was caught at the Ghaziabad court on Wednesday evening, four hours after it entered the court premises and injured several people.
According to witnesses, the leopard appeared unexpectedly on the first floor of the Ghaziabad court about 4 p.m. People raced helter-skelter in search of protection, and lawyers shut themselves away in rooms, creating chaos and bustle on the court grounds.
When the leopard noticed the disturbance, he grew angry and attacked a cobbler who was fixing shoes on the court grounds as well as a police officer.
The leopard also assaulted a lawyer who attempted to drive the big cat away with a shovel and a stick. According to Parvinder Nagar, an advocate, the leopard assaulted four to five lawyers and injured 12 to 14 individuals in all.
As soon as police received information, ambulances arrived on the scene and transported the injured to the hospital. "Around six individuals were injured when the animal, which is still on the court premises," said Assistant Commissioner of Police Abhishek Srivastav.
After receiving information, a forest department crew arrived at the court with tranquillizer guns to rescue the leopard. Rakesh Kumar, the district magistrate of Ghaziabad, and Dinesh P, the additional commissioner of police, also arrived at the scene. The leopard was finally apprehended by forest officials in the evening.
