Patna: Hardening his stance over the alcohol prohibition law for visitors to the dry state, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar made a bold statement in support of the law. Nitish Kumar while addressing a gathering in Sasaram, Bihar on Monday said, “Some people say that people who are visiting the state allow them to take a little, but is it possible? Will we allow them to drink alcohol? Will you allow people coming from other states to drink alcohol? Don’t come to Bihar…”
“If you drink liquor and you are having trouble drinking alcohol in Bihar, then don’t come to Bihar… There is no need to come to Bihar,” Nitish Kumar added.

Highlighting the fact that no matter how much educated a person might be, the person cannot be considered capable if he/she drinks alcohol, said Nitish Kumar.
“Such people who even after being educated, indulge in drinking alcohol, are against the principles led by Mahatma Gandhi and the society,” added Nitish Kumar.
While addressing a social reform campaign in Sasaram, Nitish Kumar said that the liquor ban in Bihar cannot be withdrawn at any cost and strictly signaled that anyone challenging the law or give statements in public, shall face legal action as per the law.
Meanwhile, Chief Justice of India Ramana while making observations on the 2016 state legislation of liquor sale and purchase in Bihar said that the prohibition law is a “shortsighted decision” of the Nitish Kumar government.
“The liquor ban decision of Nitish Kumar government in 2016 has left a large number of cases pending in the courts. Even hearings for bail in simple cases are taking one year time in the courts,” said CJI Ramana.

He further added that a huge stack of applications pertaining to bails in liquor prohibition act are submitted in large numbers are lying in the High court. The short-sighted policies implemented by different governments, is affecting the works of courts in the country.
Earlier, the Patna High Court too made strong remarks on the liquor ban as large number of bail applications continue to pile up in the court.
