'Stay away & don't comment': PM Modi's message to ministers on Bharat-India row

Digital Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged his ministers to stay away from making any further comments regarding the almost two-day-long, intense "Bharat-India" political row. He reportedly said, "Do not comment," during a Council of Ministers meeting where the G20 and other issues were discussed.

According to reports, this is the first time PM Modi has learned to have discussed the subject with his ministers.

The opposition has had two meetings in the past two days to map out a strategy for handling the situation. Former Congress leader Sonia Gandhi wrote to Prime Minister Modi on Wednesday morning with a list of nine topics that might be covered during the special session of parliament that will start on September 18.

The government has responded sharply, suggesting that Sonia Gandhi disregards custom, which states that the agenda need not be discussed before the session begins.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi wrote, "After the calling of the session by the President and before the commencement of the session, there is a meeting of the leaders of all the parties in which the people rising in the Parliament are discussed. Issues and work are discussed."

The Opposition and the BJP have been at odds ever since Monday when it was reported that President Droupadi Murmu's invitation to G20 leaders refers to her as the "President of Bharat". On the next day, a document that referred to Prime Minister Modi as "Prime Minister of Bharat" came to light.

The opposition has accused the ruling party of setting up a smoke screen to draw attention away from the governance gaps that have led to unemployment, poverty, and price rise. They said that the issue is also related to the Opposition Front's use of the name INDIA.

A top source on Thursday stated that the special session's purpose is to discuss the G20 amidst the political struggle.

The long-pending demand for the Women's Reservation Bill was not mentioned in Sonia Gandhi's letter to PM Modi, according to MLC K Kavitha of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi. The Central-State Relationship, Communism, the Situation in Manipur, and the Border Conflict with China were among the nine issues covered in Sonia Gandhi's letter.
