Digital Desk: The Supreme Court (SC) today granted anticipatory bail to businessman Raj Kundra and four other accused in a case related to the pornography scandal.

On November 25, the Bombay High Court rejected Raj Kundra's plea for pre-arrest protection in a case pertaining to an FIR filed by the Mumbai Police in 2020 for alleged pornographic content distribution.

This is one of several cases filed against Kundra for allegedly producing and streaming pornographic content.

He spent nearly three months in judicial custody before being released on bail in September of last year in another case related to the scandal.

While granting the bail, SC in its order said, "The case arises from common FIR. By order impugned in all these cases, anticipatory bail has been denied but there were orders of interim protection. Counsel for state would take the following stand before this court- chargesheet has been filed and in case of grant of anticipatory bail it must be made clear that petitioners must cooperate in case their presence is required," while granting bail, SC said in its order.

"We are of the view that they should be released on Anticipatory bail subject to conditions by the Trial court In case there they should fully cooperate. Court will incorporate this as a condition for anticipatory bail," the order added.

Raj was arrested in July 2022 for allegedly being involved in the production and distribution of pornographic films. He was booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Information Technology Act, and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act.

The Mumbai Cyber Crime Department filed a chargesheet on November 22 against businessman and Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty's husband Raj Kundra and others in connection with the case of producing and streaming pornographic content.
