    UPSC Civil Services Result 2022: Ishita Kishore topped the exam, top 4 ranks bagged by women

    Digital Desk: The top four ranks in the 2022 civil services examination were bagged by women, with Ishita Kishore, a graduate of Delhi University, taking the first spot, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) announced on Tuesday.


    Garima Lohia, Uma Harathi N, and Smriti Mishra secured second, third, and fourth ranks respectively in the examination, the results of which were announced on Tuesday.


    Garima Lohia and Mishra are both University of Delhi graduates, while Harathi N holds a B.Tech degree from IIT-Hyderabad.


    This is the second year in a row that women candidates got the top three ranks in the prestigious exam. Earlier, in the civil services examination 2021, Shruti Sharma, Ankita Agarwal, and Gamini Singla secured the first, second, and third positions respectively. 


    The commission stated that 933 candidates -- 613 men and 320 women have qualified for the civil services examination 2022.


    According to the report, the top 25 candidates are comprised up of 14 women and 11 men.


    The UPSC conducts the civil services examination in three stages each year to select officers of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and Indian Police Service (IPS), among others.


    Ishita Kishore topped the exam with political science and international relations as her optional subjects. She earned her bachelor's degree in Economics (Hons.) from the University of Delhi's Shri Ram College of Commerce.


    Garima Lohia, a Commerce graduate from Kirorimal College, University of Delhi, came in second place with Commerce and Accountancy as her optional subjects.


    Harathi N, a B.Tech in Civil Engineering from IIT Hyderabad, ranked third with Anthropology as her optional subject.


    Smriti Mishra, a B. Sc. graduate from Miranda House College, University of Delhi, came fourth with Zoology as her optional subject.

    Educational qualifications of top 25 successful candidates range from graduation in Engineering, Humanities, Science, Commerce, and Medical Science from prestigious institutions such as IIT, NIT, University of Delhi, Gujarat National Law University, Jadavpur University, and Jiwaji University, among others, according to the UPSC.


    In the written (main) examination, the top 25 successful candidates chose Anthropology, Commerce & Accountancy, Economics, Electrical Engineering, Law, History, Mathematics, Political Science & International Relations, Philosophy, Sociology, and Zoology as their optional subjects, it added. 


    The 41 recommended candidates have a benchmark disability (14 are orthopedically handicapped, seven are visually challenged, 12 are hearing impaired, and 8 have multiple disabilities).


    Out of the total qualified candidates this time, 345 are from the General category, 99 are from the Economically Weaker Section (EWS), 263 are from Other Backward Classes (OBC), 154 are from Scheduled Castes (SC), and 72 are from Scheduled Tribes (ST).


    A total of 178 candidates have been put on the reserve list, it said. 


    The centre said that there were 1,022 posts to be filled through the civil service examination.


    It includes 180 IAS officers, 38 IFS, 200 IPS, 473 in Group A central services, and 131 in Group B services, the UPSC said. 


    On its campus, UPSC maintains a 'Facilitation Counter' near the Examination Hall. Candidates can get information/clarification about their examinations/recruitments in person or by phone at 011-23385271/23381125/23098543, it said.


    The result will also be accessible on the UPSC website, http://www.upsc.gov.in.


    "Marks will be available on the website within 15 days of the date of result declaration," the UPSC said.


    Last year, on June 5, the Civil Service preliminary examination 2022 was held. A total of 11,35,697 people applied for this exam, with 5,73,735 of them actually appeared in it.


    A total of 13,090 candidates qualified for the written (main) examination, which was held in September 2022.


    A total of 2,529 candidates qualified for the prestigious exam's personality test.
