The General Elections 2024 for the 18th Lok Sabha will be held in 7 phases, starting from April 19. The results will be declared on June 4.
Digital Desk: The Congress party made an offer to the BJP after the party dropped Varun Gandhi, the sitting MP from Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, from its list of candidates for the Lok Sabha. Varun Gandhi is "most welcome" to join the grand Congress, according to senior leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who made the statement on Tuesday.
It is important to note that state minister Jitin Prasada has replaced Varun Gandhi, the current Pilibhit MP, at the behest of the BJP. Since Varun Gandhi had been criticizing the party for the past few years, it was almost a given that his ticket would be cancelled.
Ticket rejected due to Gandhi family connections
According to Chowdhary, the Pilibhit MP's "connection with the Gandhi family" is the reason he was not granted a ticket. "He ought to visit us. We would be content. He is a man of education. He presents a tidy picture. Due to his ties to the Gandhi family, the BJP refused to provide him a ticket. "I believe he ought to visit (Congress)," declared the head of the chamber.
With 4.19 lakh votes, Varun Gandhi easily won Pilibhit in his first election in 2009. His victories in 2014 and 2019 added to the family's political hegemony.
Varun Gandhi's political future is currently the subject of much speculation. He's reportedly considering joining the Samajwadi Party or the Congress, although these are just rumors at this point. Not even political pundits seem to know Varun Gandhi's next course of action. Varun Gandhi's future seems unknown as it is now evident that he will not run for Lok Sabha on a BJP ticket this time around.
Jitin Prasada fielded from Pilibhit
The BJP has selected Jitin Prasada, an Uttar Pradesh minister who defected from the Congress two years ago, to represent the party in the Pilibhit Lok Sabha constituency.
Known as one of Rahul Gandhi's closest friends, Prasada served as a minister twice during the Congress government led by Manmohan Singh. He was elected to the UP Legislative Council in 2021 after losing two Lok Sabha elections in 2014 and 2019.
