    Digital Desk: Every year on December 16, India commemorates the victory of its armed forces against Pakistan in the 1971 war. On this day, India pays tribute to all warriors who have defended the country.

    Pakistani forces headed by General Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi surrendered unconditionally to coalition forces led by Lieutenant General Jagjit Singh Aurora in Dhaka on December 16, 1971, following their defeat. When the fighting concluded, Bangladesh earned independence. The 1971 war affected relations between the United States and India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh in South Asia. 

    Vijay Diwas commemorates India's victory over Pakistani troops in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. Martyrs who died defending their country are commemorated. On December 16, 1971, India and Pakistan finished their 13-day conflict. As a result, Bangladesh was formed as a new country. In Bangladesh, the day is also known as Bijoy Dibos, or Victory Day.

    On the eve of Vijay Diwas, President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Army Chief General Manoj Pande attended the At Home reception at Army House. 

    According to Rajnath Singh, "Today, on Vijay Diwas, the nation salutes India's Armed Forces for their unparalleled heroism, bravery, and sacrifice. The 1971 conflict saw humanism win over inhumanity, virtue triumph over misbehaviour, and justice triumph over injustice. India is extremely proud of its armed forces."


    Army veterans, citizens, the armed forces, lawmakers, and the government pay tribute to express thanks for the sacrifices made by these soldiers. Vijay Diwas also celebrates the liberation of Bangladesh from Pakistan.
