Digital Desk: The Yamuna water level in Delhi has broken the all-time record of 207.49 metres dating back to 1978, which is now running at 207.55 metres, according to the Central Water Commission.

As per the Central Water Commission's (CWC) flood-monitoring portal, the water level at the Old Railway Bridge crossed the 207-metre mark at 4 a.m. for the first time since 2013 and surged to 207.55 metres by 1 p.m. According to an official with the irrigation and flood control department, the river is anticipated to rise more.

The Yamuna water level in Delhi has been rising rapidly during the last three days. It increased from 203.14 metres at 11 a.m. on Sunday to 205.4 metres at 5 p.m. on Monday, surpassing the danger level of 205.33 metres 18 hours sooner than anticipated.

According to officials, CM Arvind Kejriwal has called for an emergency meeting on the rising level of the Yamuna in the city, as reported by news agency PTI. However, a Delhi government official stated that the meeting would take place at the Delhi Secretariat with senior officers from several departments in attendance.

As a precautionary step, the Delhi police have also implemented Section 144 CrPC in flood-prone districts of the city. Due to the rising level of the Yamuna River in the national capital, thousands of residents have been evacuated and relocated to safer areas.

In a tweet, CM Arvind Kejriwal stated that the CWC had forecast a 207.72-metre increase in the Yamuna tonight. He also requested the Centre to act to prevent additional rises in the Yamuna as a result of huge volumes of water discharged by Haryana at the Hathnikund barrage.

The Old Railway Bridge has been closed to traffic due to rising water levels since Tuesday morning. Moreover, all gates at the Okhla Barrage have been opened to release excess water, making sure that the Yamuna River's water level does not remain dangerously high for an extended period of time.
