Digital Desk: Actor-turned-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ravi Kishan announced on Friday that he would introduce a private member's bill in the Lok Sabha on population control.

Kishan, a Member of Parliament from Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur constituency, has four children, three daughters and a son, with his wife, Priti.

"We can only be Vishwa Guru if the Population Control Bill is introduced. It is crucial to prevent population growth," Kishan said.

"We're heading for an explosion with the way it's rising. I want the opposition to allow me to introduce the bill and hear my explanations," Kishan added.

Meanwhile, Minister of State for Health Bharati Pravin Pawar stated in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday that the centre is not looking into any legal measures for population control.

As per Pawar, the government aims to stabilize the population by the year 2045 in accordance with the National Population Policy 2000 and the National Health Policy 2017.

"The Total Fertility Rate (TFR) decreased to 2.0 in 2019–21, which is below replacement level, according to the National Family Health Survey–5," said Pawar.

Many BJP leaders, including Union Minister Giriraj Singh, have been demanding the introduction of laws to check the rising population growth in India.

Notably, a recent report of the United Nations predicts that  India's population will exceed China's by 2023.
