Air India Flight Crash: Death Toll Exceeds 270
The Boeing 787-8 aircraft, which departed at 1:38 pm, plunged into the B.J Medical College hostel mess shortly after takeoff.

Digital Desk: On June 12, 2025, an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner bound for London tragically crashed just 33 seconds after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad.

The Boeing 787-8 aircraft, which departed at 1:38 pm, plunged into the B.J Medical College hostel mess shortly after takeoff.

The devastating accident claimed more than 270 lives, including students of the B.J Medical College hostel mess and Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.

Emergency response teams were deployed to manage the damage caused by the crash and to carry out rescue operations.

The police found only one survivor, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, who was seated in seat 11A.

According to official sources, there were 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, one Canadian, and seven Portuguese nationals on the flight.

Investigators recovered the black box of the plane, an analysis that could provide vital clues about what triggered the plane crash.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the crash site and later met with the lone survivor at the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital.

In response to the tragedy, the Government has set up a high level multi disciplinary committee which is headed by the Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan.

The panel will examine the factors that have led to the deadliest aviation disaster in a decade.

Air India has established assistance centres in Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Delhi and London airports for the relatives of the victims of the plane crash. These centres are facilitating travel of the family members to Ahmedabad.
