Washington: Noted mathematician and ‘Super 30’ founder Anand Kumar has been felicitated with a prestigious teaching award in the US. The Education Excellence Award 2019, held in California, was presented to him by Foundation For Excellence (FFE) for his contributions towards imparting education to the country’s needy students.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Kumar urged the Indian community residing in US and across the world to help education become the strongest weapon to fight all the problems of the world. He said,“Making quality education accessible to the masses will make a huge difference to the world by solving the core issues of poverty, unemployment, population explosion, environmental degradation and a lot more.”
Mr. Kumar’s highly innovative ‘Super 30’ programme has been running for the last 18 years to mentor 30 students free of cost through a year-long residential coaching for India’s entrance exam IIT-JEE.The success rate has been extraordinary as students from underprivileged sections entered the premiere institutions thus bringing a generational change.
The noted mathematician who was recently in the news for the success of the biopic on his life starring Hrithik Roshan, thanked the FFE for providing scholarships to needy students and lighting the flame of education among them. According to him, the power of education was immense in bringing about generational change for the deprived lot.
