Guwahati : Assam’s Islamic Scholars association, Jamaat-e-Ulama-e-Assam condemned Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan and Lok Sabha member Asaduddin Owaisi for triggering fear and panic with their baseless statements regarding NRC.
The organisation alleged that this is an attempt “to tarnish the image of India”. “We tell them to stop their interference in our matter, as Assam has more than 4 lakh Moulanas, Islamic Scholars, Hafiz, Qazi and Mufti. Everyone is happy. We don’t need to learn Islam and humanity from Imran Khan and Asaduddin Owaisi”, a statement issued by the Jamaat added.
The President of Jamaat-e-Ulama-e-Assam, Mufti Ebadur Rahman Qasmi, expressed his happiness and satisfaction with the Government of India for releasing a “fair” NRC. He also expressed his gratitude to the Supreme Court, the National Register of Citizens (NRC) Chief Coordinator Prateek Hajela and Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal for their continued efforts to release a “fair” NRC.
“The Government took admirable steps to provide legal aid to the needy people amongst those excluded from NRC irrespective of their castes, colour or religion. Minorities in Assam are very happy with this laudable decision of the Government”, read the Communiqué.
