New Delhi: At least 43 people have been killed, in a massive fire in a house at Aanaj Mandi area on Rani Jhansi Road in Delhi. 56 people have been rescued from the building and and taken to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and Hindu Rao Hospital. Most of the people injured were labourers who were sleeping inside. Meanwhile, a police case has been filed against the owner of the factory who is currently said to be missing.
The call regarding the fire was received at 5-22 am after which 30 fire vehicles were immediately rushed to the spot. Delhi police has advised the commuters coming from St Stephen to Jhandewalan to use the Rani Jhansi flyover as the road below has been closed for public due to the incident.
Friends and families of the workers working in the premises tried to locate their family members at various hospitals where the injured and dead were taken. The deputy chief officer Sunil Choudhary said that a fire broke out in a 600 sq feet plot and it was very dark inside. It was a factory where school bags, bottles and other material were kept.
Delhi Food and Civil Supplies Minister Imran Hussain said that an investigation will be conducted into the investigation. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind and several other politicians including Nirmala Sitharam, Ram Vilas Paswan and Bhupinder S Hooda expressed their condolences.
