Centre Announces New Rules For Work From Home In India

Digital Desk: New guidelines for Work From Home (WFH) in
businesses operating in special economic zones (SEZ) across the nation were
made public by the Union Commerce Ministry on Tuesday. A brand-new rule 43A for
WFH in the Special Economic Zones Rules, 2006 has been made public by the
Department of Commerce. "According to the revised announcement, WFH may be
provided to a maximum of 50% of the unit's employees, including contractual
    workers.

Development commissioners (DC) of SEZs have the freedom to authorise
more personnel for any genuine reason as long as it is documented in writing
"In a formal statement, the ministry of trade and industry noted.

It is noteworthy that the regulations were developed in
response to the industry's need for a uniform WFH policy across all Special
Economic Zones (SEZs). However, the new law allows a specific group of
employees of a unit in a SEZ to work from home. Employees of IT/ITeS SEZ units,
employees who are temporarily disabled, employees who are travelling, and
employees who are working offsite are the group of workers for whom
    work-from-home guidelines have been imposed.
