Guwahati : The central government has selected the Kaziranga National Park among seventeen tourist spots of the world to be developed as a world-class tourism destination.
Kaziranga is the only spot selected from the North east alone to be developed as a world class tourism destination where visitors will be provided with unforgettable experiences.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharam during her maiden Budget Speech had mentioned that 17 spots including Kaziranga would be developed into world-class tourism destinations in a bid to attract domestic and international tourists in large numbers. The budget had allocated Rs 1378.53crore for the development of tourism infrastructure in the country.
The Kaziranga National Park is the home to the world’s largest population of the one horned rhino as well as many mammals, and thousands of birds. The national park also houses a orchid garden to protect the state’s rare orchid flower from extinction. Kaziranga is recognized as an Important Bird Area by Bird life International for the conservation of avifaunal species.
The environment and forest minister of Assam has welcomed the Centre’s decision and took to the social media platform Twitter expressing his excitement. “A news of great rejoice knocks the hearts of the people of Assam as Hon’ble PM Nirmala Sitharaman announced that Kaziranga National Park has been identified as one of the 17 model sites to be developed as iconic destinations.”
