New Delhi : Former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram will be now overstaying his judicial custody further as a Delhi court extended the judicial remand of the ex-minister who is also a veteran Congress leader to October 17.
The former Union Minister has been arrested for his alleged role in the INX Media Group case. Chidambaram was sent to 14 days judicial custody beginning from September 9 which till now has been extended further as per court’s order.
Additional Sessions Judge A.K.Kuhar extended the remand when the CBI produced Chidambaram before the court on expiry of his last judicial remand of 14 days. However, the court allowed Mr. Chidambaram to have home food inside jail and medical examination at a hospital outside.
Earlier in the day Chidambaram moved the Supreme Court seeking bail in the INX media case and urgent hearing in the case. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing Chidambaram mentioned the matter for urgent listing before a bench headed by Justice N.V. Ramana. The bench also comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Krishna Murari said that Mr Chidambaram’s plea would be sent to Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi for taking a call on listing of the matter.
