Digital Desk: In connection with the alleged coal smuggling scam, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials questioned Bengal Law Minister Moloy Ghatak for nearly eight hours today at his house in Kolkata. This evening, the crew left the scene of the minister's house in cars, joined by some members of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

Workers for the Trinamool Congress demonstrated against the raids in Asansol.
Asansol-born Moloy Ghatak is a powerful Trinamool Congress leader. Their wife, Sudeshna Ghatak, said that the CBI team behaved politely as they left his Asansol apartment and added that she assisted them in the inquiry.
After Moloy Ghatak ignored many summonses to appear before the central investigation agency in the alleged coal smuggling case, a raid was conducted at his home.
Ghatak's two homes in Asansol and one in Chelidanga were sealed off by several central forces that had been sent late at night on Sunday. Notably, Abhishek Banerjee, a TMC MP, and Ghatak are both being monitored by the Enforcement Directorate in the same matter.
In November 2020, the CBI launched its investigation into the multi-crore coal theft involving Eastern Coalfields in Bengal's Kunustoria and Kajora districts in and around Asansol. The main suspect in the big fraud has been identified as a local coal operator named Anup Majhi. The TMC youth wing leader and close aide to Abhishek Banerjee, Vinay Mishra, and his brother Vikas Mishra have also been held in the case, along with the previous inspector in charge of the Bankura police station, Ashok Kumar Mishra.
