30 year old Army man Jitu Rai from Lucknow, clinched the eighth gold for India at CWG’18 through his 10m air pistol title, showcasing qualities of intense implementation and determination while focusing on his aim. Throughout the final event, Jitu Rai seemed to be quite poised and determined on winning a medal, which he eventually did.
While on the other hand Jitu Rai’s younger team mate, Om Prakash Mitharwal, secured bronze at an indiscriminate point of 8.4 at the final round, which made him stop at the third position. Between this two Indians was the lonely Australian Kerry Bell who secured the second position and eventually got the silver medal.
World No 4, Jitu Rai’s win was imminent at the Commonwealth Games 2018 and thus this army man shone in the shooting event making the overall gold medals won by India till date standing at 8.
The women shooting fraternity too have gifted India with two medals for this year India’s race in the Commonwealth Games, 2018. 17 year-old Mehuli Ghosh from West Bengal won silver in the 10m air rifle while Apurvi Chandela won bronze, missing the last final bout to clinch gold for India.
India is now placed at no. 3 with overall medal tally reaching up to a total of 17 medals with 8 golds, 4 silvers and 5 bronze medals.
