Several groups opposing caste based reservations in government jobs and educational institutions, called for a “Bharat Bandh” today, with few precautionary measures and curfew being imposed in some places of Madhya Pradesh and Bihar. The core places where curfews have been set are in Bhind and Morena in Madhya Pradesh, with six paramilitary forces deployed mainly in Bhind.
While traffic congestion was reported from NH 219 at Mohania-Bhabua in Bihar, but not much of protests could be seen along the National Highway. Section 144 has been imposed in Bhopal and Gwalior schools and other educational institutions are closed in Bhind and Morena.
While the CRPF deployed in Bhojpur district did have to face a group of angry protestors who had blocked the road and caused a slight traffic jam. Angry mobs were seen shouting slogans against the government in Arrah district of Bihar.
The Centre has directed all the state’s SP’s to stay vigilant and keep a tap on any possible outbreak of violent protests in core places of the country. Additional security forces have been also deployed in case the situation goes out of control like the one on April 2 “Bharat Bandh” which saw violent protests across the country with 9 people dead and many injured during the violence.
All states have been directed by the Centre to tighten their respective security after several groups opposing the caste based reservations called for a nationwide “Bandh” today.
