New Delhi : Darrang’s Sasanka Hazarika will receive the National Teacher’s Award on Teacher’s Day. Bringing pride to the state, 40 year old Sasanka Hazarika will be conferred with the National Award for Teachers for the year 2017 from the State of Assam on Wednesday.
Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu will confer the National Awards for 2017 on September 5 at a function to be organised at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with National Teachers’ Awards awardees on Tuesday.

Sasanka is the science teacher of the Dahi Higher Secondary School, Darrang. He is a resident of Punia-Pakabangipara village near Mangaldai. He has been serving as an assistant teacher at the Dahi Higher Secondary School since 2014.
The award carries a citation, a silver medal and a cash prize of Rs 50,000.
“Shri Sashanka Hazarika, from Darrang, Assam, has encouraged computerization and development of software for classrooms. He has taken education to more and more children through his work in increasing enrolment. I wish him success in his noble endeavours (sic),” Modi tweeted.

It may be mentioned that the Ministry of Human Resource Development has recently revised the guidelines for the selection of teachers for National Awards, 2017. Under the revised guidelines, all the regular teachers will be eligible to apply and they should have at least a minimum 15 years of work experience.
GS Zaithantluanga from Mizoram, Motilal Koirala and Mamta Awasthy from Sikkim, Lutni Perme from Arunachal Pradesh, Karma Chomu Bhutia from North Sikkim, Khangembam Indrakumar Singh from Manipur, Murugan from Nagaland and Sutapa Sur from Tripura will be conferred with the National Award for teachers for the year 2017.
