New Delhi : The debate on the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 has begun in the Lok Sabha on a stormy note.

The opposition leaders shouted slogans against the ruling BJP party in the Lok Sabha, but union Home Minister Rajnath Singh continued speaking on the Bill. They said the Bill is unconstitutional and goes against the secular principles of India.
While on the other hand, entire Assam has come to a standstill due to the violent protests that have stopped the movement of vehicles, trains etc in entire Assam. Protesters have resorted to violent ways to protest against the ruling BJP party from passing on the Citizenship Bill.

Rajnath Singh in his speech said that various NGOs and other groups conducted countrywide surveys to help frame the amendment bill and help the Joint Parliamentary Committee come to its decision.
The opposition continued to raise voice in resentment against the Bill as Singh continued to speak.
Voices like “Bill wapas karo” “Bill wapas lo wapas lo” slogans rung in the Lok sabha by the opposition.

“The countries where minorities were subjected to violence have only been able to find safe shelter in India. We regulated their entry, stay in India,but despite these changes they cannot apply for citizenship as they are considered migrants,” said Singh in Lok Sabha.
