New Delhi/ Srinagar: After meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval yesterday, a group of European Union MPs (EU MPs) will visit Jammu and Kashmir today. The visit comes at a time when the entire opposition mainstream in Kashmir remains in custody.
Many opposition parties, including Opposition leaders Rahul Gandhi raised questions regarding their visit. On the other hand, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor had termed the centre’s decision as “an insult to democracy”.
The EU MPs are the first international visitors to the valley since the abrogation of the special status on August 5. Most of the visiting EU 27 MPs are from right parties out of which only three are leftists. These MPs will visit India in their private capacity.
