She Urged India Home Minister Amit Shah To Grant Her To Remain In India…
Digital Desk: Bangladeshi writer, Taslima Nasreen the writer regarded to be living in exile in India has sought an extension of her residence permit in India. Nasreen, who has been critical of religious fundamentalists, especially within Islam, and for women’s rights has been in India since 2011 after years of moving from one European country to another and then to the U.S. Her residence permit was issued to her until July 2024, but she has already had it renewed and now there is a huge unpredictable situation because the Indian government has not renewed it. Through her X (formerly Twitter), she urged Indian Home Minister Amit Shah to grant her to remain in India she also referred to India as her second home for the past two decades.
To make matters worse, Nasreen has been experiencing a growing level of danger should she ever have to flee the country of India. She added that her affiliation is pure and that she has no intention of going back to Bangladesh where some Islamists have threatened to kill her over the contents of her writings. Moving to India after writing a novel, Lajja, in 1994 this incited a furious reaction from religious fanatics.
Nasreen’s application has recently become popular in the media as she pointed out that the lack of a new permit would leave her at a disadvantageous position both in the personal and in the professional spheres. Its present location of habitation in India is still unknown up until the government comes up with a decision.
