Srinagar : Shah Faesal, the first Kashmiri IAS topper who quit civil services this January for politics, was detained at Delhi Airport and sent back to Srinagar where he was placed under house arrest under the Public Safety Act. Shah Faesal, an MBBS, quit IAS to protest against the “unabated killings” in Kashmir and the “marginalization of Indian Muslims”.
Faesal was on his way to Istanbul via Delhi when he was stopped at the airport and sent back to Srinagar. The IAS topper has been quite active on social media platforms voicing his angst against the government’s move to end special status to Jammu and Kashmir and split it into two union territories.
After Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti, Mr. Faesal is the latest J&K politician to be placed under house arrest.
Faesal stated in his Twitter handle, “Kashmir will need a long, sustained, non-violent political mass movement for restoration of the political rights. Abolition of Article 370 has finished the mainstream. Constitutionalists are gone. So you can either be a stooge or a separatist now, No shades of grey.”
Faesal had topped the Civil Services exam from Kashmir in the year 2009.
