Ahmedabad: In a horrific incident in Gujarat’s Bhuj, 68 girls were forced to remove their undergarments to prove that they were not menstruating after a hostel rector complained to the principal that some of the girls entered the temple and kitchen while on their period and violated the religious practices.
The alleged incident took place at Shri Sahajanand Girls’ Institute (SSGI). Ironically the institution’s mission reads “self-development and empowerment of girls through modern, scientific, and value-based education. Reportedly, no police complaint has been lodged in connection with the matter.”
There has been no police complaints on the matter yet but a committee has been formed by the in-charge vice-chancellor of Krantiguru SHyamji Krishna Verma Kutch University for investigating the matter.
As per reports, 68 girls were paraded from the college to the hostel restroom, after rector Anjaliben allegedly called the principal while the students were attending lectures. They were queued outside and the principal allegedly insulted them and enquired about the students who were menstruating. Two of the students who were menstruating stood up but all the hostellers were paraded to the toilets where female teachers allegedly asked them to remove their under to see if they were lying.
