From IIT to Inner Peace: The Unique Journey of Abhay Singh at Kumbh Mela 2025.
Abhay Singh, an IIT Bombay Alumnus and a former aerospace engineer, turned to spirituality…

Digital Desk: This year at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, amidst millions seeking spiritual awakening, one figure draws widespread curiosity: Baba Abhay Singh is also known as IIT Baba. An IIT-Bombay graduate and a former aerospace scientist, his transition from scholarly life to monasticism has enthralled many.

Abhay Singh Chaudhary was born in Haryana, India he had a challenging childhood and he didn’t had a healthy relationship with his father which motivated him to seek the significance of life. After his engineering, he moved into Arts, did his photography at a renowned institute and then finally delve into spirituality. He said, “It is therefore important to note that I kept switching from one approach to the other in arriving at the final truth”
In the mocking sense nicknamed by his family as IIT Baba over his bizarre choice of careers, he sometimes thought of escaping his home. But he just couldn’t stop himself, so, the he continued to study Sanskrit, human mind and the nature of unwanted thoughts, and the mechanisms behind those. Worse of all,  his condition deteriorated to severe depression, and he got more involved in his search for solutions to life’s issues through studying psychology.

He tried to integrate both science and spirituality following the principles of ISKCON, J. Krishnamurti. Travel photography was a way to present new visions of the world – a flipside of his richer concern, yoga and Vedic sutras were turned into the parts of his spiritual doctrine. Unlike some gurus called ‘sage’ or ‘mahant’ IIT Baba insists on a man’s freedom and flexibility. “When a man fixates on nothing, he becomes enlightened,” he says.
Today, IIT Baba uses his scientific skills along with spiritual journey to preach practices for attaining knowledge of the self and moksha. It demonstrates existential education, a true seeker and an Odyssean journey from being an Aerospace engineer to being a Guru.
