    India stated on Wednesday that the election for Vice President will take place
    on August 6. If necessary, the counting will also take place on that day. The
    deadline to submit nominations is July 19. On July 5, a notice of the election
    to choose Venkaiah Naidu's replacement as vice president would be released.

     
    The last day to withdraw your name from
    consideration is July 22. The nomination papers will be examined on July 20.

     
    The
    term of Naidu expires on August 10. According to the proportional
    representation system, the members of the Electoral College, which consists of
    the members of both Houses of Parliament, use a single transferable vote to
    elect the vice president of India, who also acts as chairman of the Rajya
    Sabha.

    The
    Electoral College for the 16th vice presidential election is made up of 233
    elected Rajya Sabha members, 12 nominated Rajya Sabha members, and 543 elected
    Lok Sabha members, according to a press release from the ECI.
