Chandigarh: A petition has been filed before the Punjab and Haryana high court claiming that Dera Sacha Sauda (DSS) chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh’s life is under threat inside Rohtak’s Sunaria jail, where he is presently lodged after his conviction in rape and murder cases.

The petition filed by Dr Mohit Gupta who works at the Dera-run hospital in Sirsa, has claimed that Gurmeet Ram Rahim has sought directions to produce him before the high court.
The petitioner has claimed that Dera chief has also been deprived of calling facility, which is available, to other jail inmates, inside the jail. According to the petitioner, the Dera chief, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh has been physically and mentally tortured inside Sunaria jail that is considered as the safest prison in the state. He has submitted that a large number of criminals are confined in the jail who may be a serious threat for Gurmeet in the jail premises.

Petitioner has impleaded additional chief secretary for home, DGP (prisons) and superintendent of Sunaria jail as respondents in the case. Directions have been sought from the HC to produce Gurmeet from jail to the high court and for permission of immediate legal meeting of the petitioner and his lawyer with the convict.
