Jammu and Kashmir : After facing a barrage of protests in the Rajya Sabha following the proposal to repeal Article 370 applied only in J&K, the ruling BJP government has finally done away with a long standing contention they have been mentioning in almost all manifestos. Terming it a historic move by the ruling BJP government, Home Minister Amit Shah laid down the points which will help the state of Jammu and Kashmir to develop after it is being designated as the Union Territory.
J&K crisis: Article 370 scrapped
Among all the political developments taking place in Jammu and Kashmir, the leaders of the state have been kept under house arrest fearing string of protests by separatists’ party as well as the state government.
Iltija Javed, daughter of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Mehbooba Mufti, has described the government’s decision to remove the special status accorded to Jammu and Kashmir and to recognize the State into two Union Territories as “completely undemocratic,” reducing Kashmiris to being “second-class citizens in their own State.”
Article 370 scrapped, what next for J&K?
Ms javed’s mother, Ms. Mufti, a former Chief Minister of the State, has been put under detention, along with several other political leaders, including another former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
“The way this is being projected by the Centre is that the removal of special status is something that is good for Kashmiris. Do you think Kashmiris have such low IQ (Intelligence quotient) that they don’t know what is good for them? Or what they want for themselves? Should it have been done so undemocratically?” she said.
