Srinagar: Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State in the PMO, made a comment that political leaders detained in Jammu and Kashmir will be released in less than 18 months after the scrapping of special status. Singh’s comment is the first one in the Union government about the maximum time for which political leaders in Jammu and Kashmir may remain under detention.
The union minister’s comment came at an event on Sunday. He confirmed it yesterday over phone to a national daily saying “I said less than 18 months”. As the situation in J&K normalizes, statehood will be restored, he added.
Singh said it will not take 72 years for restoration of statehood to J&K. Commenting about the Kashmir-centric politicians, he further said that they kept the people in the dark on Articles 370 and 35A to ensure continuation of their dynastic rule.

With the abrogation of special status, a new era of development will begin in the state and people of all sections of society will be benefitted, he further said. Regarding apprehension in certain areas about outsiders getting jobs in the state, Singh allayed such fears saying that every state and union territory has certain rules with respect to recruitment of people.
