Digital Desk: A Thiruvananthapuram autorickshaw driver has won a lottery worth Rs 25 crore. This year's Onam lottery winner was a man by the name of Anoop.
Anoop purchased the ticket on Saturday from the Bhagavathy agency and was the lucky winner of the life-altering sum.
He worked as a chef before to driving rickshaws. Originally, he intended to relocate to Malaysia to work as a chef, but fate had other ideas.
Additionally, a loan had been approved for him to travel to Malaysia.
In the presence of Minister Antony Raju and MLA V K Prasanth from Vattiyoorkavu, Kerala's Finance Minister BN Balagopal drew the winning ticket out on Sunday afternoon.
His ticket number was TJ-750605.
But it was not his first choice, he told media persons who were present at the agency where he had bought the ticket.
He said that he did not like the first ticket he picked, so he opted for another one that eventually out to be a winner.
Regarding the loan and his Malaysia trip, an ecstatic Anoop said, "I told the bank when they contacted today about the loan that I no longer needed it. I also won't be travelling to Malaysia." He has been purchasing lottery tickets for the past 22 years and, according to Anoop, has previously won sums ranging from a few hundred to as much as 5,000."
"I didn't watch the lotto results on TV because I didn't think I would win. However, I discovered that I had won when I looked at my phone. I showed my wife since I couldn't believe it. She claimed it was indeed the winning number " he said.
"I called a woman I know who sells lottery tickets since I was still agitated and texted her a picture of my ticket. She claimed that was indeed the winning number" Anoop.
