Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s ashes will be immersed in the Ganges at Haridwar by his family members today. The family is planning to divide the ashes and immerse them in different rivers of the country starting from river Ganga at Haridwar today.
The former Prime Minister’s foster daughter Namita Bhattacharya and granddaughter Niharika collected the ashes from Delhi’s Smriti Sthal where the former Prime Minister was exhumed with complete state honours. The ashes will be taken to Prem Ashram, then to Har-Ki-Pauri in Haridwar by road.
All State dignitaries as well as political leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party will attend the ash immersion ceremony along with the family of Atal Bihari Vajapyee.
One of the Stalwarts of Political Scenario of Post Independence India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee passed away in New Delhi on Thursday at the age of 93. He was cremated with full State Honours at the Rashtriya Smriti Sthal in the national capital on Friday.
An all party prayer meeting will take place at New Delhi on 20 August and another on 23 August in Lucknow since Vajapyee’s appeal cut across political divide.
Meanwhile BJP leaders and party members expressed their solidarity with the people of Kerala due to he torrential rains and devastating flood wreaking havoc in the region. The party members are planning to visit every household of the affected areas of the southern states as a part of the rehabilitation measures.
P Muralidhar Rao, BJP National Secretary, said that the state party unit are already working round the clock for relief work and are collecting materials from across the country, while the units in the neighboring states of Kerala are planning to send doctors’ teams to the flood-hit region.
