Maharashtra Political Crisis| Shiv Sena leader, arrives in Guwahati along with the MLAs, Lodged in Hotel Amid Tight Security

BJP MPs Pallab Lochan Das and Sushanta Borgohain met the MLAs at the airport.

Digital Desk: A delegation of Maharashtra MLAs, including dissident Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde, arrived Guwahati on a charter flight on Wednesday morning. They moved to a posh hotel outside the city under heavy guard.

Sushanta Borgohain and Pallab Lochan Das, two BJP MPs who met the MLAs at the airport and initially declined to speak to reporters gathered outside the terminal, subsequently claimed to have "the support of 40 MLAs."

Although the precise number of rebellious Shiv Sena MLA on board the flight could not be confirmed, reports reported that there were 89 people on board total, including the crew. The Assam State Transport Corporation provided three buses to transport the MLAs to the hotel when they arrived from Surat.

Before this, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut asserted that Shinde is accompanied in Surat, Gujarat, by 14 to 15 Sena MLAs, including several ministers. Another party chief, though, said that it might be 23.

In the 288-member House of Shiv Sena leading, the MVA has 55 MLAs, and allies NCP (53) and the Congress (44) are next in line, with a simple majority threshold of 144.

Though the BJP party or his office has yet to acknowledge the meeting, there are numerous rumors that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma would meet with the MLAs during the day.

Strict security is maintained by a big squad of police officers stationed in and around the hotel. According to a BJP source, the MLAs were moved to Guwahati for security reasons after being transported from Mumbai to Surat on Tuesday.

After rebelling against the party leadership, MLAs from a Western Indian state are perhaps being transferred to a Northeastern state for the first time.

Following the rebellion by a group of its MLAs led by Shinde, the Shiv Sena-led government in Maharashtra is reasoned to be in turmoil.
