West Bengal : The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted bail to BJP youth wing leader Priyanka Sharma who was arrested for putting objectionable picture of West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on social media.
The SC said that the BJP youth leader be released immediately and directed her to tender an apology after her release. Sharma’s release will not be bound by the condition of apology.
The Sc had earlier asked Sharma to tender an unconditional apology for posting the morphed photograph of the TMC chief to get bail.
Sharma has approached the apex court challenging her arrest by West Bengal police for posting a morphed image of Mamata Banerjee on Facebook.

Sharma allegedly shared on Facebook the photo in which Banerjee’s face has been photo shopped on to actor Priyanka Chopra’s picture from the MET Gala event in New York.
Her arrest was followed by protests from the BJP and other social media users.
The BJP Yuva Morcha leader was arrested on May 10 by the State Police under section 500 (defamation) of the IPC and under other provisions of the Information Technology Act on the complaint of a local Trinamool Congress leader Vibhas Hazra.
