Digital Desk: A customer was disappointed to receive detergent bars after ordering a laptop for his father from an online store.
An IIM-Ahmedabad student, Yashaswi Sharma who shared the event on LinkedIn, wrote that he ordered the laptop from Flipkart during the company's Big Billion Days Sale. They discovered that the shipment included packets of detergent bars once they opened it.
In his post, Sharma stated that his father, who was unaware of Flipkart's Open Box Delivery concept, had received the box.
Take a look at his post:
In an Open Box Delivery, the delivery person opens the package in front of the customer to make sure the correct item has been delivered, according to Flipkart. According to e-commerce, this protects the consumer from becoming a fraud victim.
He, however, wrote in his post that “most people in India are not familiar” with the concept and so wasn't his father.
The IIM student added that his father “assumed OTP was to be given upon receiving the package - as is usual for prepaid deliveries - so he gave it when the box was delivered.”
It is to be noted that Sharma didn't realise the package didn't contain what he had paid for until he opened it. He also uploaded a picture of the delivery package that included bars of dishwashing soap.
Yashaswi also said that he had contacted Flipkart customer service about the issue but had not received a suitable response. A "seniormost customer care executive," according to Mr. Sharma, informed him that it was his father's responsibility for providing the OTP without first inspecting the delivered item and that it was not feasible to return the order.
