New Delhi : The ministry of home affairs (MHA) have asked around Rs 4000 crore from the Union cabinet to update the National Population of Register (NPR). NPR is verified data of all Indian residents which links the 12-digit Aadhar number with demographic data collected by Census enumerators.
According to reports, another Rs 9000 crore for the two-phased Census 2021 which is to begin next year has been asked by MHA. The first phase of the Census 2021 and the updating of the National Population Register (NPR) will run parallel.
NPR contains the database of 1.3 billion Indians and will be used to ascertain the citizenship of Indians and issue citizenship cards. This is the second time that the database will be updated. The new NPR will contain 15 additional data points per person in addition to the already 20-point database of NPR.
