MHA plans to fill 84,405 vacant positions in CAPFs by Dec 2023: MoS Nityanand Rai

About 84K positions in six Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) are currently unfilled and will most likely be filled by December next year.

Digital Desk: Nityanand Rai, the Minister of State for Home (MoS), informed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday that the government had decided to fill 84,405 open positions in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) by the end of 2023.

In a written response to BJP MP Anil Agrawal, the Minister added that the test to fill 25,271 Constable (General Duty) positions had already been maintained.

According to information provided by the MoS, there are 84,405 open positions in the CAPFs, which include the Assam Rifles (9,659), Border Security Force (19,254), Central Industrial Security Force (10,918), Central Reserve Police Force (29,985), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (3,187), and Sashastra Seema Bal (11,402).

However, according to the information provided by the MoS, the combined sanctioned strength of these forces—Assam Rifles, BSF, CISF, CRPF, ITBP, and SSB—is 10,05,779.

Rai added that the government had taken several actions to fill the vacancies in the CAPFs swiftly.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Staff Selection Commission and those steps, according to the Minister, and one of them is for an annual recruiting process for the position of Constable (General Duty) (SSC).

According to Rai, a Nodal Force has been designated on a long-term basis for the recruitment of Constables (General Duty), Sub-Inspectors (GD) or Assistant Sub-Inspectors (Executive), and Assistant Commandants (General Duty).

He added that all Central Armed Police Forces and the Assam Rifles had been instructed to conduct recruitment efforts for open positions in Non-General Duty cadres in a timely manner.

The Minister also spoke about the Departmental Promotion Committee's (DPC) promptly holding meetings to fill openings for promotions.
