    Nagaland's 1st woman MP, including 6 other MPs takes oath in Rajya Sabha

    Phangnon Konyak (44), who is also Nagaland's Mahila Morcha state president, took her oath in the Upper House dressed in traditional Naga attire and jewellery.




    Digital Desk: Six Rajya Sabha members, including Nagaland's first woman Rajya Sabha MP, S. Phangnon Konyak, took their oaths as members of the Upper House on Monday in the presence of chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu and other members of parliament.


    Phangnon Konyak (44), who is also Nagaland's Mahila Morcha state president, took her oath in the Upper House dressed in traditional Naga attire and jewellery.


    The Bharatiya Janata Party had two MPs (Pabitra Margherita of Assam and S. Phangnon Konyak of Nagaland), the United People's Party Liberal had one (Rwngwra Narzary of Assam), the Communist Party of India had one (Santosh Kumar of Kerala), the Communist Party of India-Marxist had one (AA Rahim of Kerala), and the Congress had one (Jebi Mather Hisham, Kerala).


    Pabitra Margherita, an actor-turned-politician, is the BJP's state spokesperson in Assam. Margherita received 46 votes, and Narzary received 44 votes in an alliance with UPPL's Rwngwra Narzary, helping them defeat Congress' Ripun Bora. Margherita is also a member secretary of the Assam government's State Level Advisory Committee for Student and Youth Welfare.


    AA Rahim of the CPI(M) is the national president of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), while CPI MP Santosh Kumar is the Kannur district secretary of his party and a member of the Kerala CPI state council.


    The House of Representatives Jebi Mather Hisham is the state president of Kerala's Mahila Congress and the vice-chairperson of the Aluva municipality.
