Nationwide Digital Arrest Scam Busted: The Mastermind Brain Behind The Bank Fraud Arrested

Digital Desk: The Kolkata police arrested eleven people,
amongst them the main accused Chirag Kapoor, alias Chintak Raj, a software  amongst them the main accused Chirag Kapoor, alias Chintak Raj, a software engineer from Bengaluru. Kapoor had managed to escape the law for seven months until he was arrested  for running a scam syndicate across the country that convinced their targets they were under ‘digital house arrest’. The website, it is alleged, has helped Indians to solve more than 930 complaints nationally.

Kapoor was arrested in police operations at his home in JP Nagar, police confiscated his computers and routers as- evidence. Joint CP (Crime & Traffic) Rupesh Kumar said that the scam started on June 17 last year from a complainant Debashree Dutta also known as Debashi Dutta, who fell prey to the racket and got extorted of Rs. 47 lakh. The fraudsters acted on her fear stating that her credentials are associated with dealing with smuggling and money laundering. They forced her to stay on a 24/7 zoom call and demanded multiple kinds of payments threatening to arrest her.

The authorities were able to freeze Rs. 7.4 lakh remittance to one Uma Burney, Brain Burst Robotics attracting police raids on Kolkata wherein eight persons were arrested. An imitation office was evacuated; 104 of passbooks, 140 of SIM cards and other means of the fraud were seized.

Kapoor, who was known as the ‘CEO’ of this racket, was running it online. His was arrested after following technicalities and a manhunt across the region. Some of the items recovered include cheque books, SIM Cards and rubber stamps. The accused will be hearing court cases, and police will apply for transit remand.

This case gives us  the perfect example of “every dog has its day” for Kapoor his come to get him after all that fraud.
